MEDIA RELEASE NIGHT SIX
EKINS TAKES CHARIOTS TITLE No 4 !
The NT's favorite son, Warrenne Ekins, tonight won the final night of Chariots of Thunder for 2009, including the NT Sprintcar Titles over the same weekends racing.
In a 30 lap feature race with only 1 minor stoppage in it on lap 2 when Luch Monte pulled up in turn 1, Ekins was never headed on his way to claiming his 4th Chariots of Thunder series title.
Tensions were high not only on the track, but in the pits also with temperatures rising as fast as the Territory wet season's average, however, Ekins answered the critics with a near faultless drive.
Placegetters for the NT Title were Ekins, Adrian Maher and Jason McIver whilst the major trophy winners for the COT Series were Ekins 1st, Ryan Farrell and the Loudoun Motorsports family drivers of Ian Loudoun and Adrian Maher who tied for 3rd place.
Heat races were fast and furious with the usual amount of damage spread throughout the night with Jamie O'Neill taking a huge dump on the main straight off the start line in Heat 2. Chace Karpenko also suffered a machinery failure sending him into the turn 2 wall and upside down.
Allan Barlee ended the wrong side up in Heat 3, Luch Monte the same in Heat 4 and Sally Barlee joining the upside down club in Heat 5.
Heat winners were Luch Monte, Warrenne Ekins, Adrian Maher, Ben Atkinson, Jamie Maiolo and Todd Wanless. Wanless also won the B Main to transfer through to the 30 lap championship decider.
