Water World Comes To The Clay Way - Take Two
Please be patient - Lots of photos to load on this page
Water Speedway - Event Number two and although competitor numbers were marginally down, those that turned up put on some pretty good close racing with the usual banging between dingies and the jet skis really getting into the swing of things.
The crowd for this event was a little better than the first meet with a lot of kids dragging their parents along for the night. The format was new, with fewer laps and more craft in each event. This allowed for closer racing and a much better spectacle for the crowd. Although the number of jetskis were down on the last event, they still put on a high speed show whilst the dinghy, having got more used to the idea of racing, became rather serious with much hull banging as each raced for the corners.
The bath tub derby was a great example of the imagination (some might call it a lack thereof) and ingenuity when constructing a craft from a bath tub which could actually float and be steered at speed. (well, we are talking degrees here).
The jet boats put on a great display, taking various VIP's for a quick spin around the speedway. Included in the list were Shayne from Tubemakers Metaland (major sponsor) and Minister for Sport, Chris Lugg. Both were very happy with their experience. At the end of the night, about 20 other crowd members were lucky enough to experience the adrenaline output of going flat out in one of these boats with our two drivers from Victoria putting in a lot of overtime after the meeting had finished.
All in all, another good night's racing. And the critics who were after the V8 exhaust system note were satisfied with the jetsprint boats 350 chev finding the appropriate noise levels.

Again, from the Executive members of the Northline speedway, a big thankyou to all the competitors who were 'mad' enough to try an event like this and a big thankyou for the support given by the behind the scenes efforts of the club members, officials and sponsors that put in the time and effort to put the event together.
Now it is time to start the planning for the dry speedway events. The plug will be pulled in the next few days allowing the water to slowly drain out. It will be interesting to see what is left of the original track.
